There are losses that resemble healing, emerging from your soul like poison from a wound, leaving you lighter, purer, and perhaps even more capable of breathing again.
We have always believed that all relationships, every relationship, are like eternal contracts. We cling to them, even as they consume us, drain our energy, and erode our souls, and disrupt our inner peace. We sometimes nurture toxic friendships or suffocating love relationships, convincing ourselves that patience is a virtue, and compromise is a form of loyalty. Eventually, we find ourselves trapped in a never-ending anxiety, a pointless sadness, a body that only tires from thinking, and a spirit that only finds solace in escape.
Yes... some losses are simply irreplaceable, because they simply take back the self you entrusted to someone who doesn't deserve it, the self you sacrificed and believed you loved, or the self you gave in exchange for connection or kindness. Then comes the loss, suddenly or gradually, to remind you that you were sacrificing the most important thing you had: yourself.
A few days ago, I met a woman who appeared to be in her sixties. I met her at a wedding party. She was laughing and dancing lightly, which was surprising given her age. When I asked her about the secret to her youthful energy, she replied with a smile:&"I have eliminated from my life everyone who made me doubt my worth, or who made me feel ashamed, or who made me cry more than I laugh."&"She didn't mean literal dismissal, but rather that she established boundaries for every relationship, and a key for every heart, and that she redistributed spaces according to who deserved them. Nothing personal, just a matter of mental health."
Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of it is that, when a person finally ends a difficult relationship, they feel a surge of freedom, like returning from a long exile. Then, things begin to...&"The beautiful losses"»!
&As if his internal body had developed a new immune system, rejecting the infection and warning of danger before it escalated. Not revenge, but maturity. Not arrogance, but preserving the dignity of the self that had been so often sacrificed in the name of loyalty.
Sometimes, the problem isn't with the other person, but with oneself. It's in their fear of being alone, or of appearing harsh, or of being accused of selfishness. Because of this, they compromise and make concessions, getting entangled in a web of contradictions that can only be resolved through a great loss, or a sudden awakening, or a collapse that forces them to confront the enormity of what they have wasted.
Losing people doesn't always mean that the fault lies with them, nor does it mean that the fault lies with you. Sometimes, we simply don't fit together, and other times, we change, and the relationship fails to keep pace with this change. Just as clothes we loved as children eventually become restrictive when we grow older. We don't hate them, but we no longer wear them.
None of this means that we should turn into beings without longing, or sever our relationships completely, or idealize isolation. Rather, it means having the courage to say: "This relationship no longer suits me, this friendship hurts me more than it pleases me, this closeness drains me, this companionship pushes me backward." And to say this without feeling guilty.
The soul was created to dwell in peace, not in constant anxiety. And anything that threatens this peace must be re-evaluated. Mental well-being is not a luxury, but a necessity. And mental health is not a slogan, but a complete life that we must care for as we care for our hearts and bodies.
And so, when you decide to save yourself from a toxic relationship, don't look back too much. Don't ask for public opinion, and don't search for justifications. Just be honest with yourself, and consider this loss as a gain. Trust that life after that will give you something better, and perhaps even give you a new version of yourself.&... pure, light, and full of joy.
