Deadly verbal battles

I am not a supporter of running away, but I also don't believe that every fight is worth engaging in. This applies to both real fights and verbal arguments!

There is a type of debate that produces nothing but death, not because the idea is flawed, but because the intention is flawed. In this case, the debate no longer serves as a means of understanding, but becomes a playground for malice, deception, and the display of rhetoric on the corpses of meanings.

And if a person wants to maintain their peace of mind, they must master the art of polite withdrawal, not just through silence, but through something even more effective: a kind remark that extinguishes the flames of argument, just as a drop of water extinguishes a smoldering ember.

How many times did I tell a person who was about to explode:&"I appreciate your point of view, and I wish you all the best."&"And I saw how he got confused, and how he stammered, and how he suddenly recalculated?"

Kindness does not mean weakness, and a violent response does not mean strength. Between the two, there is always a third option: the option that does not negate your own identity, but also does not turn you into a mirror for another person's anger. This is the option of maturity, when a person grows enough to realize that not every bullet needs a shield. Some bullets simply fall when they find no ground to impact.

Kindness is not a manipulation or a glossing over of the situation. Kindness is a fundamental behavior that requires a deep understanding of personal dignity. To say something noble in the presence of someone who is trying to provoke you, means that you have chosen to stand on the other side, where meaning prevails over words. This may seem like a difficult choice, especially when the other person is armed with all the possible vices, but when you say something that opens a door instead of closing it, you not only save yourself from being dragged down, but you may also save the other person from themselves.

How many arguments could have been avoided with just a kind word to end them, and how many long-standing disputes began with a single phrase, or a smile that was misinterpreted, or a sarcastic tone that we took as a joke, and which the other person then interpreted as an attack? I am not saying that one is always responsible for other people's intentions, but one is entirely responsible for the way they present themselves in the world, and for the language they use to express their existence.

Often, kindness is misunderstood because it confuses those who don't possess it. Some see it as weakness, complicity, or a concession of rights, but in reality, it is the ability to free oneself from the constraints imposed by others, and to respond in a way that is not reactive, but rather proactive, even if one chooses not to respond in the way others expect. This, in itself, is a profound and beautiful act, reminding us that argument is a minefield for those who don't know where to put their feet, and that a gentle phrase can sometimes be the staff of Moses, dividing the sea of anger into two shores: the shore of your peace, and the shore where those who tried to ignite it are left with disappointment.

I learned, perhaps too late, that style can be more effective than content, and that the way you say something can change the entire course of the conversation. It's even better to say something gentle in a tense moment, something that shows you're capable of sharpness, but that you've chosen not to use it. Ultimately, we are defined not only by what we say, but by what we choose not to say when we could have said everything.

Kindness is not a behavioral luxury, but an act of resistance in an era of intolerance. It is the highest stance when others sink to the level of contempt. It is your weapon when you want to win yourself, not your opponent, to preserve your inner peace, not to destroy the peace of others.

And if anyone asks about resolving pointless arguments, I advise against winning them, but rather, overcoming them with a beautiful word that comforts the other person and makes them feel satisfied, and perhaps even ashamed, temporarily.
